With the opening of the Yeongjong Police Station, which has jurisdiction over Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) in Incheon, on the 1st, the district's 140,000 residents can now receive close-contact policing services within their own living area. The move resolves the long-standing inconvenience of having to travel to the Jungbu Police Station in the inland old downtown, and it carries significant meaning in that a new policing foundation has been established in step with the launch of Yeongjong-gu District.

She made clear that district administration and local policing must work hand in hand.
Mayor Son described the opening of the Yeongjong Police Station as a 'historic' event in which the long-cherished wish of the district's 140,000 residents has borne fruit. She said it was deeply meaningful that, at a time when a new era for Yeongjong is beginning, a foundation had been laid to protect residents' safety even more firmly.

She went on to note that Yeongjong-gu District is taking its first steps as a leading airport-economy hub city in South Korea that draws the world's attention, and stressed that the most important thing in this process is the foundation of a 'safe city' where residents can live with peace of mind. In effect, she placed public safety at the forefront as the bedrock of the city's growth.

Mayor Son urged that the Yeongjong Police Station serve going forward as a dependable neighbor that watches over residents' daily lives up close, and that it contribute to Yeongjong-gu District's growth into the safest and most livable international city.
The Yeongjong Police Station, which opened on the 1st alongside the launch of Yeongjong-gu District, has been set up in a temporary building at 6-13 Haneuldalbit-ro 64beon-gil, Jungsan-dong, Yeongjong-gu District. Its jurisdiction covers all of Yeongjong-gu District as well as Bukdo-myeon in Ongjin-gun County, and Senior Superintendent Yu Dong-bae serves as its first chief. The organization operates with a system of eight divisions, two police substations, and two police boxes.

In particular, with this opening, Yeongjong residents are freed from the inconvenience of having to visit the Jungbu Police Station and can now use community-based policing services at a location closer to their living area. As policing demand has steadily grown amid the city's growth driven by a rapid influx of population and rising numbers of Incheon International Airport users, a tightly knit policing system is expected to be put in place, covering not only residents but also visitors coming to Yeongjong.
