Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jung-min) has announced the official start of its ninth popular-election term, which will lead county affairs for the next four years. On July 2 at 10 a.m., Ongjin-gun County held the inauguration ceremony for Governor Jang Jung-min at the county office's Hyosim Hall, taking the first step toward a new leap forward for the island region together with its roughly 20,000 residents.

The inauguration was held under the county administration slogan "A Hopeful Ongjin Where Residents Are Happy." The event was attended by former and incumbent politicians, including former County Governors Cho Kun-ho and Cho Yun-gil, former Incheon Mayor Park Nam-choon, former Incheon Political Vice Mayor Cho Taek-sang, and Incheon Metropolitan Council members Shin Young-hee and Bang Ji-hyun. In addition, local elders, heads of major institutions and organizations in the county, and residents—some 300 people in all—took part to celebrate the launch of the new county administration.

The pre-ceremony stage featured a performance by the saxophone club of the Deokjeok-myeon residents' council. This was followed in turn by Governor Jang Jung-min's oath of office and inaugural address, a reading of the president's congratulatory message, and congratulatory remarks by guests. In the latter part of the ceremony, the Daecheong Camellia Choir took the stage to celebrate the start of the ninth popular-election county administration, further heightening the significance of the event.
In his inaugural address, Governor Jang made clear his approach of running county affairs closely attuned to residents' daily lives. He emphasized, "I will be a governor who shows results through action rather than words, a governor of everyday life who changes the inconvenient days of our islands, so that ideals can come closer to reality. Until the day 'A Hopeful Ongjin Where Residents Are Happy' is completed, I will be a governor who keeps his promises without fail and repays them with achievements."

Three core tasks were presented as the direction for county affairs going forward. Governor Jang expressed his determination to achieve sustainable development for Ongjin-gun County by prioritizing an overhaul of maritime transport—a long-cherished wish of island residents—while expanding youth policy and laying the groundwork for a renewable energy industry.

In particular, given the geographic character of Ongjin-gun County, which is made up of islands large and small, maritime transport is a key issue directly tied to residents' daily lives. Coupled with youth policy to counter population outflow and aging, as well as the fostering of renewable energy that leverages the island region's conditions, the ninth popular-election Ongjin county administration is expected to aim simultaneously at two pillars: administration closely tied to daily life and securing engines for regional growth.
