Incheon's Ongjin-gun County (Governor Jang Jeong-min) has completed a final review of preparations across sectors including tourism, living environment, traffic and the economy ahead of the opening of the Peace Bridge connecting Sindo Island to the mainland. The county said on the 13th that it held a "report meeting on preparations for the opening of the Sindo Peace Bridge" that day, presided over by Governor Jang Jeong-min, to discuss measures for proactively responding to the changes expected from the island's connection to the mainland.

Sindo is an island under the jurisdiction of Bukdo-myeon Township in Incheon's Ongjin-gun County, and it will be connected to the mainland once the Peace Bridge opens. The meeting was arranged to comprehensively review preparations by relevant departments for the anticipated increase in tourists and changes to the living environment that will accompany the bridge's opening, and to identify and address problems in advance so that response systems could be established for each sector.

Heads of relevant Ongjin-gun County departments attended the meeting and shared progress on their respective areas of work. Participants continued discussions on final items to be completed before the opening and on tasks requiring interagency cooperation.

The report covered progress and interagency cooperation matters in areas including: management of tourist convenience facilities and hiking trails and rest areas; household waste management and environmental cleanup; traffic safety measures and land transportation operation plans; parking lot construction and inspection of infrastructure and roads; expansion of convenience facilities such as electric vehicle charging stations; eradication of illegal fishing and establishment of a cooperative system with relevant agencies; and the operation plan for the Bukdo-myeon comprehensive situation room.

In particular, the meeting reviewed the results of measures taken to address shortcomings pointed out at the first report meeting held on July 6. Ongjin-gun County conducted on-site inspections to further supplement areas found lacking, while focusing discussion on sector-specific response systems and continuous management measures suited to the new era of mainland connection.

"The opening of the Sindo Peace Bridge will not only improve residents' transportation convenience but also serve as a new turning point for tourism promotion and regional economic development," said Governor Jang Jeong-min. "As we enter the era of mainland connection, we must proactively respond to changes that may arise across various sectors such as tourism, living environment, the economy and traffic, continuously pursue policies that residents can feel the benefits of, and keep improving infrastructure."

He added, "Even after the bridge opens, I ask that every department carry out its work responsibly through continuous on-site inspections and close cooperation between relevant agencies, so as to minimize inconvenience for residents and tourists and ensure that the benefits of mainland connection lead to regional development."

Ongjin-gun County plans to swiftly carry out follow-up measures on the sector-specific supplementary items raised at this meeting. Even after the opening, it plans to maintain ongoing on-site inspections and a cooperative system among relevant agencies to minimize inconvenience for residents and tourists and actively respond to the various changes brought about by the island's connection to the mainland.
