Songdo International Library, run by Incheon's Yeonsu-gu District (Mayor Lee Jae-ho), will hold a lecture titled "Understanding Overseas Koreans with Teacher Choi Tae-seong" at Incheon National University's Songdo Campus on Aug. 5, hosted by the Overseas Koreans Agency.

Under the theme "The History of Hawaii Emigration and the Lives of Immigrants," the lecture is designed to trace the footsteps of Korean emigrants to Hawaii — regarded as the country's first official emigration — and to reflect together on the significance of the Korean people who have put down roots around the world.
The lecture will be given by Choi Tae-seong, a leading Korean history instructor widely known by the nickname "Keunbyeolssaem" (Big Star Teacher), who has appeared on various broadcast programs including "History Journal That Day" and "Naked Korean History." He has served as a publicity ambassador for the Overseas Koreans Agency since 2025, conducting "Outreach Programs for Understanding Overseas Koreans" across the country.
Also appearing at the lecture will be director Lee Jin-young, who directed the film "Hawaii Yeonga." Through the film, Director Lee sheds light on the lives of Korean American immigrants who officially emigrated to Hawaii, USA, in 1903 and successfully settled there after overcoming numerous hardships, and plans to explain the role and significance of overseas Koreans to the audience in an accessible way.
A library official said, "We hope this lecture will be an opportunity for participants to understand the lives of overseas Koreans who have carried on the name of the Republic of Korea in various parts of the world, and to share in the historical significance together."
The lecture is open to all local residents who are elementary school age or older, and applications will be accepted starting on the 15th via the Yeonsu-gu Public Library website.
