The project was designed to convey community interest and congratulations to vulnerable residents on their birthdays and to help ease the sense of isolation that those living alone may feel.
Specifically, each month from August to December, the council will select four households among underprivileged residents celebrating birthdays, and council members will personally visit their homes to deliver birthday items such as cakes.
Council members plan not only to hand over celebratory items but also to check on the well-being of the households they visit and look into any difficulties in their daily lives, adding the meaning of neighborly care to the visits.
Ham Hye-kyung, the council's private-sector chair, said, "I hope this helps our neighbors in need feel the community's warm affection and spend a happy day," adding, "We will continue working with residents to carefully look after neighbors who have been left out and build a warm welfare community."
The Sinheung-dong Community Social Security Council said it plans to use this project as an opportunity to continue pursuing welfare initiatives aimed at strengthening emotional support and social networks for vulnerable residents in the area.
