The Yeonsu Keunjae Scholarship Foundation is a scholarship fund established to support the academic pursuits of students in the district, and it has been running a program to provide scholarships to students facing financial hardship. Since taking office, Mayor Lee has donated personal funds to the foundation on multiple occasions, and with this latest contribution, his cumulative donations have surpassed 10 million won.
Personal donations from the heads of local governments carry significance both as a practice of the social responsibility expected of public officials and as a catalyst for expanding scholarship programs through private funding. Based on such donations, the Yeonsu Keunjae Scholarship Foundation has been providing scholarships to students from low-income and multi-child households in the district, among others.
Yeonsu-gu District said it will continue to encourage donation participation from various sectors of the local community to expand the scale of the scholarship fund, and will keep supporting students facing financial hardship so that they are not left out of educational opportunities.
