Ganghwa-gun (Mayor Park Yong-cheol) will begin lending confined-space work safety equipment free of charge to small local private businesses and livestock farms starting this September. The measure is intended to prevent suffocation accidents in advance and ease the burden on small workplaces that find it difficult to secure safety equipment.

Ganghwa-gun announced that, beginning in September, it will run a free rental service for confined-space work safety equipment aimed at small local private businesses and livestock farms.
Confined spaces such as livestock sheds, sewage treatment facilities and manholes are prone to the buildup of hazardous gases or oxygen deficiency, posing a constant risk of suffocation accidents during work. Because a single such accident can immediately lead to serious loss of life, preventive steps — checking oxygen and hazardous-gas concentrations before and during work and wearing appropriate protective gear — are more important than anything else. In reality, however, small workplaces and farms often struggle to equip themselves in time due to the cost burden.
This initiative targets precisely that blind spot, focusing on helping small businesses and livestock farms that find it hard to secure safety gear to use the equipment in a timely manner during hazardous work. The rental equipment includes air-line masks, which protect workers’ breathing in spaces where there is a risk of hazardous gases or oxygen deficiency, and multi-gas detectors that measure oxygen and hazardous-gas concentrations within the work area.
The county plans to go beyond simply lending the equipment by also providing guidance on how to use it and on safety rules for confined-space work, thereby strengthening practical on-site safety management capabilities. Those wishing to borrow equipment can visit the Safety Management Division at Ganghwa County Office, fill out a rental slip and collect the gear. Detailed information, including eligibility, rental periods and application methods, will be announced through channels such as KakaoTalk card news.
Ganghwa County Mayor Park Yong-cheol said, ‘Because a single suffocation accident can lead to serious loss of life, it is more important than anything to identify risk factors before work and to be equipped with appropriate safety gear,’ adding, ‘Through this free rental service, we will ease the burden on small businesses and livestock farms that find it difficult to secure safety equipment, and actively support the implementation of practical safety measures on site.’
Inquiries can be directed to the Safety and Health Team of the Safety Management Division at Ganghwa County Office (032-930-3803).
