Incheon's Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) has launched a project to repair the aging homes of integrated care recipients, including elderly residents with mobility difficulties and people with severe disabilities. Over the three months through November, the district plans to join forces with a private organization to improve the safety and livability of deteriorated housing, supporting recipients so they can continue living in their current homes.

District Mayor Son Hwa-jeong and Kim Young-jung, head of the nonprofit organization Jibeuro Ganeun Gil, signed a cooperation agreement for the 'Integrated Care Yeongjong-ae(愛)seo On(溫)jeon Housing Peace of Mind Project' at the Yeongjong-gu District Office on the 8th. The agreement aims to substantively improve housing safety so that integrated care recipients who face difficulties in daily life can live in secure residential spaces.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly carry out the 'Onjeon Housing Peace of Mind Project' from September through November this year, selecting households with vulnerable housing conditions among integrated care recipients. The project will be carried out through close public-private cooperation.

Construction work for the project will be handled by the partner organization, Jibeuro Ganeun Gil. The organization operates by first training young people in home repair skills, then deploying them on-site alongside professional technical mentors to provide systematic mid-scale repair services. The initiative is also expected to give participating young people a chance to learn practical skills while contributing to society.

Ahead of the coming winter season, the project's repair items were designed to focus on improving the energy efficiency of target households and fundamentally eliminating everyday hazards. The design takes into account the characteristics of vulnerable households, which face greater burdens from winter heating costs and higher risks of safety accidents.

Specific support items are divided into three categories depending on each household's circumstances: 'insulation safety,' which covers repairs to insulation materials, windows and doors, and boilers; 'hygiene environment,' which covers wallpapering, flooring, kitchen sinks, and replacement of aging toilets and sinks; and 'electrical safety,' which includes replacing old wiring and adding or adjusting the height of outlets and switches.

District Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said, "The core of integrated care is helping people continue living healthily in the place they have called home." She added, "Through this agreement, we will further strengthen the integrated care safety net so that residents can receive care services in safe housing and continue to lead dignified, happy lives."
