Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) in Incheon has held a parent education session that brought together child abuse prevention training and a tea ceremony experience. The district said it ran the "Child Abuse Prevention and Tea Ceremony Healing" parent education program on Sept. 8 at Cafe Chadeokbune for 13 caregivers of elementary school children enrolled in Dream Start.

The program was designed to help children enrolled in Dream Start grow up in a safe environment while also strengthening the parenting capacity of their guardians. The approach goes beyond supporting children directly, extending to the condition and attitudes of the adults who care for them.

The session ran for two hours beginning at 10 a.m. that day. It opened with participant registration and opening remarks, followed by child abuse prevention training, a break, the tea ceremony experience and a satisfaction survey.

The child abuse prevention training, the first item on the agenda, was led by instructor Lee Yun-hee of the Incheon Southern Child Protection Agency. Lee sought to raise caregivers' awareness of child abuse while also covering proper methods of disciplining children and desirable parenting attitudes that can be applied in daily life.

In the tea ceremony experience that followed, participants brewed and shared tea themselves under the guidance of an outside instructor. Caregivers shared their parenting difficulties with one another and eased their weariness, and the program served as an opportunity for psychological relaxation and emotional care.

This combination of educational content and emotional support is focused on helping caregivers view the training not as a burden but as an occasion for recovery. Given that concerns about disciplinary methods often go hand in hand with emotional exhaustion, providing prevention education together with care is regarded as an approach that enhances effectiveness.

Yeongjong-gu Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said, "Through this program, we hope caregivers' awareness of child abuse has been raised, and that the tea ceremony experience gave them a moment of peace of mind, however brief." She added, "We will continue to run a variety of parent education programs for families enrolled in Dream Start."

Dream Start is a program that provides customized, integrated services to children from vulnerable groups and their families, and is characterized by attention to the overall parenting environment in support of children's healthy development. With the district pledging to continue parent education, support programs for Dream Start families in the Yeongjong area are also expected to expand further.
