The field-oriented administration of Yeongjong-gu District (Mayor Son Hwa-jeong) in Incheon has produced tangible results in resolving disputes surrounding move-ins at a newly built apartment complex. The district announced on the 14th that the Prospective Residents' Council of Yeongjong Ocean Park Moa Elga Grande visited the Yeongjong-gu District Office on the 9th and presented a plaque of appreciation to Mayor Son Hwa-jeong. Since the district stepped in to address defects and complaints, the complex's move-in rate has risen from about 70% to 85%.

The council prepared the plaque to express its gratitude to the district for visiting the site directly to respond to defects and complaints that arose during the move-in process at the new apartment complex, and for facilitating communication between prospective residents and the project developer.
The district's response began in earnest with Mayor Son Hwa-jeong's site visit on July 13. On that day, Mayor Son visited the complex together with officials in charge, checked one by one the major complaints and facility defects raised by prospective residents, and discussed improvement measures at a meeting attended by both the project developer and the Prospective Residents' Council. Repairs on major defects have since been under way, and improvement work is continuing on items that have yet to be addressed.
The district's efforts to ease the financial burden on prospective residents also stand out. By supporting consultations between the developer and financial institutions, the district helped extend the loan deadline for prospective residents by 3 months from the previous term. As a result, prospective residents gained more time to repay their loans and were given conditions to prepare for their move-in more stably.
According to the district, as a result of such on-site inspections and continued consultations, the complex's move-in rate has risen from about 70% to 85% at present, and the major defects and complaints that had been raised are gradually being resolved as repair and improvement measures proceed.
The plaque presentation ceremony was held on the 9th at the mayor's office of the Yeongjong-gu District Office, attended by Mayor Son Hwa-jeong and officials of the Prospective Residents' Council.
An official of the Prospective Residents' Council said, "As the mayor personally visited the site to check the problems and actively consulted with the project developer, we were able to see actual improvements being made," adding, "We are grateful to Yeongjong-gu and Mayor Son Hwa-jeong for listening to the voices of residents."
Yeongjong-gu Mayor Son Hwa-jeong said, "Creating a residential environment where residents can live with peace of mind is the most important thing," adding, "We will continue to keep a close watch on the remaining defects and complaints until actual improvements are made."
The district plans to continue on-site inspections and consultations among the parties involved to support the prompt resolution of the remaining defects and complaints. In the Yeongjong area, where move-ins at new apartment complexes continue, defects and complaints during the move-in process are matters directly tied to residents' daily lives, and this case is seen as demonstrating the role a local government can play between a project developer and residents.
