Arts Center Incheon announced that it will hold a special concert marking Incheon Citizens’ Day and the 23rd anniversary of the founding of the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) at 7:30 p.m. on October 15 in its Concert Hall.
The most notable feature of the event is that it sharply lowers the cost of attendance through a tie-in with the ‘1,000-Won Happy Culture Ticket’ program. Any Incheon resident can purchase a seat for just 1,000 won, while residents of other regions may attend for 20,000 won. The initiative is designed to bring outstanding performances into the everyday lives of citizens without financial strain, and it is being read as an effort to broaden access to cultural experiences.
The concert will be performed by the Incheon New Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Jeong Han-gyeol. The program opens with the overture to Mozart’s opera ‘The Marriage of Figaro.’ Tenor Isaiah and mezzo-soprano Shin Hyun-sun then perform ‘Tonight,’ the signature number from the musical ‘West Side Story,’ followed by soprano Yang Ji and baritone Ryu Seung-wan singing ‘One Fine Day in October,’ a piece steeped in autumnal mood. Trumpeter Alex Volkov displays dazzling virtuosity with Arban’s ‘Variations on the Carnival of Venice,’ and traditional Korean vocalist Yang Eun-byeol adds to the festive atmosphere with renditions of ‘Gasibeosi Love’ and ‘Launch the Boat.’
The highlight of the evening is the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, ‘Choral.’ Four vocal soloists — soprano Yang Ji, mezzo-soprano Shin Hyun-sun, tenor Isaiah and baritone Ryu Seung-wan — will be joined on stage by a combined choir made up of the Incheon Men’s Choir, the Incheon Women’s Choir, the Scala Choir, the Yeonsu-gu Municipal Women’s Choir and the Namdong-gu Municipal Women’s Choir, delivering a resonant message of harmony.
Lee Kwan-hyung, director of Arts Center Incheon, said, ‘To commemorate Incheon Citizens’ Day and the founding of the IFEZ, we have prepared a special stage that can enrich the daily lives of our citizens,’ adding, ‘I hope every Incheon resident will enjoy a top-tier performance for just 1,000 won and create meaningful autumn memories together with beloved family and neighbors.’
Tickets can be reserved through the Arts Center Incheon website (aci.or.kr) and Nol Ticket (1544-1555).
