The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) has wrapped up its Environmental Health Safe Home project, which improves the living conditions of environmentally vulnerable residents such as low-income households and elderly people living alone, and held a final performance report meeting on the 21st. The city provided integrated support to 30 vulnerable households in Seohae-gu and Ongjin-gun, covering everything from hazardous-factor diagnosis to renovation work, follow-up air-quality measurement and reassurance medical care.

At the performance report meeting held on the 21st, the Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it had successfully completed the Environmental Health Safe Home project aimed at improving the living environment of vulnerable residents.
Unlike conventional home-repair support that focused mainly on facility maintenance, this project was carried out as an integrated environmental health service spanning precise diagnosis of indoor hazardous factors, tailored improvement work, follow-up indoor air-quality measurement, environmental health consulting and reassurance medical care for environmental diseases. By examining both housing vulnerability and health vulnerability together and focusing on reducing exposure to hazardous factors, it is regarded as a case that went beyond simple assistance to safeguard the right to health of vulnerable residents.
The project was financed through corporate social contributions. In the Seohae-gu area, funds were provided by SK Incheon Petrochem Co., Ltd., and in the Ongjin-gun area by the Yeongheung Power Division of Korea South-East Power Co., Ltd., both of which made designated donations to the Community Chest of Korea Incheon branch. The city explained that this is a model case of public-private cooperation in which corporate ESG practices led to tangible improvements in the daily lives of marginalized residents in the region.
Together with the Incheon Environmental Health Center and the Incheon Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center, the city selected 30 environmentally vulnerable households in Seohae-gu and Ongjin-gun. It then carried out household-specific improvement work such as replacing eco-friendly wallpaper and flooring and installing measures to prevent condensation and mold.
The project proceeded in stages. Specialized personnel visited each home in person to measure and diagnose major indoor hazardous factors such as fine dust, formaldehyde, total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) and mold, and then carried out work in line with the diagnostic results. After the work was completed, follow-up indoor air-quality measurements were taken to confirm the improvement effects in numerical terms, and a practical living guide covering ventilation, cleaning and mold management was distributed to help residents maintain a comfortable environment on their own. For households that wished to participate, the project connected them with the Citizen Reassurance Medical Care for Environmental Diseases program, providing precise health checkups and consultations with medical specialists.
The performance report meeting was attended by officials from the city, sponsoring organizations, the implementing agencies — the Incheon Environmental Health Center and the Incheon Metropolitan Self-Sufficiency Center — and the construction contractors, who shared the outcomes and discussed future development plans. Participants also watched a video capturing the project process and the on-site changes in each household. In a satisfaction survey of the supported households, all participating households responded that they were very satisfied, indicating that residents felt a strong sense of improvement.
Yoon Eun-ju, head of the city Environmental Safety Division, said, ‘This project is a highly meaningful case in which the heartfelt support of companies transformed the living spaces of the neighbors who need help most into safer and healthier homes,’ adding, ‘We will continue to work closely with the local community and steadily expand tailored environmental health services that citizens can feel firsthand in their daily lives.’
