The Incheon Grand Park Office of Incheon Metropolitan City will run a woodworking program titled ‘Making Wooden Supplies for Our Pets’ every Saturday from September 19 to November 28, in which participants build wooden items for their pets with their own hands. It is a hands-on program in which citizens who keep pets experience the process of shaping and assembling wood to complete practical household items.

The Incheon Grand Park Office of Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it will operate the ‘Making Wooden Supplies for Our Pets’ woodworking program every Saturday from September 19 to November 28. Following the pet wooden supplies program first introduced last year, it continues again this year, with participants shaping and assembling wood themselves to create practical items for their pets.

Participants may choose one item to build among a dog house, a cat house, and an animal bed. They experience the entire process of preparing and assembling the wood firsthand, and the finished piece can be used in the actual living space of their pet.

The program proceeds step by step under the guidance of a wood education specialist, so that even citizens with no woodworking experience can take part without difficulty. Anyone of high-school age or older may participate, and children may join when accompanied by a guardian.

Each session runs on Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., for a total of 10 sessions over the period. The participation fee is 2,000 won, with a separate materials cost depending on the item selected. Applications can be made through the Incheon City integrated reservation website, and details such as the program schedule and available items can be found in the notices section of the Incheon Parks website.

As the pet-owning population grows, so does the demand among owners to make their pets’ household supplies themselves. Rather than buying finished products, participants come to understand the properties of wood and complete the items with their own hands, making this program an opportunity to experience both the bond with a pet and eco-friendly consumption.

Lim Sang-gyun, head of the Incheon Grand Park Office, said, ‘This is a program where you can experience woodworking while making household supplies for your pet with your own hands,’ adding, ‘I hope citizens will feel the joy of building wooden items they can use together with their pets.’

Meanwhile, since opening in 2017, the Incheon Grand Park Wood Culture Experience Center has offered a variety of woodworking programs where citizens handle and process wood firsthand while learning how wood can be used and its eco-friendly value.
