Incheon's Jung-gu District (Mayor Kim Gil-nam) has won an Excellence Award in the "2026 State Policy District Evaluation" hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan City government, securing 110 million won in fiscal incentives. The district said on the 26th that it has been named on the awards list every year since 2022, extending its winning streak to five consecutive years this year.

This evaluation was based on the results of the "2026 (2025 performance) Local Government Joint Evaluation" released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety in June. The Incheon City government ranked the districts comprehensively, assessing each district's state policy evaluation performance along with how diligently they carried out projects in preparation for the joint evaluation.

The Excellence Award received by Jung-gu represents a step up from the grades it had previously earned. Jung-gu won a Special Award in 2022 and 2023 and an Encouragement Award in 2024 and 2025 before claiming the Excellence Award this year. By never missing an award each year and setting a record of five consecutive years, the district reaffirmed its capacity as a local government that has steadily implemented state policies.

The 110 million won in fiscal incentives secured this time is an achievement resulting from the higher evaluation grade, meaning that project funds the district can use at its own discretion have increased accordingly. Given that the evaluation results do not stop at a mere commendation but return as a budget to be used for actual administration serving residents, they are also directly linked to residents' lives.

Jung-gu had operated a meticulous preparation system well ahead of the evaluation. It received expert consulting in the form of a "research lab" handling qualitative indicators, managed quantitative indicators through a "challenge"-style meeting of officials in charge of each indicator, and regularly held performance briefings to check the progress of each department. Such preparation, with each evaluation item divided up and managed, led to the higher grade.

A Jung-gu official said, "Winning the Excellence Award and five consecutive years of awards is the result of all staff carrying out proactive administration with one mind to improve the quality of residents' lives," adding, "We will do our best so that Yeongjong-gu can also continue to achieve good results in the state policy district evaluation."

The "Yeongjong-gu" mentioned by the official is a new autonomous district set to be launched on July 1 through a reorganization of the administrative system, reflecting the intention to carry this evaluation achievement forward into administration after the district division. Jung-gu plans to use this award as a stepping stone to maintain its level of state policy implementation under the new autonomous district system as well.
