Songdo International Library of Yeonsu-gu District (Mayor Lee Jae-ho) in Incheon will hold a humanities lecture on July 14 under the theme "Why Crime Films Captivate Us." The program is designed for local residents who wish to broaden their humanities perspective through the medium of film.

This lecture is the second session of "Culture Recharge on the Way Home," a culture and arts program held in the evening in consideration of office workers and local residents who find it difficult to attend during daytime hours. A notable feature is that the library has adjusted its operating hours so that people can enjoy cultural activities even after finishing their workday.
The lecture will be given by pop-culture critic Kim Bong-seok, author of "Film, Crossing Genres" and a former reporter for Cine21 and The Hankyoreh. The lecture will review the history of Korean crime films and their major works, and analyze the significance of crime films as a "mirror of the times" that reflects society.
The lecture is open to any adult interested in film and the humanities. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Yeonsu-gu District public library website starting at 10 a.m. on July 3.
A library official said, "We hope this will be a meaningful time for broadening one's humanities perspective by exploring, in an easy and engaging way, the reasons crime films remain consistently beloved and the social and cultural messages contained within them," adding, "We look forward to great interest and participation from local residents who love film."
