Incheon's Yeonsu-gu District (Mayor Lee Jae-ho) carried out an on-site inspection and special crackdown covering the parking lot and nearby roads on the 2nd, the day the truck parking lot built at Songdo's Aam Logistics Complex 2 began full-scale operation. With the opening of the parking lot rendered unavoidable by the court's final ruling, the measure was aimed at easing residents' anxiety and preventing safety accidents in advance.

Mayor Lee Jae-ho personally took part in the on-site inspection, which began at 1:30 p.m. that day, accompanied by relevant officials including the district's Transportation Administration Division and Vehicle Civil Affairs Division, along with officials from the Incheon Port Authority (IPA) and the Incheon Port Facility Management Center. Participants first examined the truck parking lot facilities as a whole and then received a briefing on operations from the relevant agencies.

The inspection team then moved to the roads around the parking lot and cracked down on site against illegal parking and stopping by trucks that threatens residents' right to walk and their safety. The district plans to respond strongly against unlicensed vehicles that harm the city's appearance and traffic safety, and, not stopping at this week's crackdown, to additionally continue intensive nighttime crackdowns targeting the 'overnight parking outside designated depots' of trucks.

On the same day, Mayor Lee Jae-ho announced that he had delivered to the city of Incheon 'Yeonsu-gu Proposal No. 1,' which calls for a review of the plan to open the truck parking lot and the preparation of measures to relocate it to an alternative site. The proposal was officially delivered by Mayor Lee to the Incheon mayor on the first day of his inauguration for the 9th popularly elected term, making clear that the district's response was not over even after the opening had taken place.

The statement contained specific demands directed at the city of Incheon, the Incheon Port Authority, and the Yeonsu Police Station. It called for effective safety measures, including designating roads adjacent to residential areas as truck traffic restriction zones until the relocation to an alternative site is complete, restricting traffic during commuting and school hours, and constantly cracking down on vehicles that stray from designated routes using CCTV. It also stated the district's policy of continuously demanding the relocation of the parking lot to an alternative site over the long term.

Mayor Lee Jae-ho stressed, "The truck parking lot was unavoidably opened by the judiciary's ruling, but the safety and residential environment of district residents are absolute values that can never be conceded," adding, "Today's crackdown is not an end but a beginning, and we will fulfill our responsibility to the very end until an environment where residents can live with peace of mind is perfectly in place." In his statement, he told the 440,000 residents of Yeonsu-gu, "The truck parking lot has been opened, but we will never concede on residents' safety."

The district plans to make this on-site inspection a starting point for fulfilling its promise to residents of 'uninterrupted development of Yeonsu,' and to make successive visits to sites tied to people's livelihoods and to major campaign pledges during July. As trucks' passage has a significant impact on residential areas and school routes, whether cooperation among the relevant agencies and constant crackdowns will translate into actual safety in daily life is expected to be the key issue going forward.
