Yeonsu-gu District (Mayor Lee Jae-ho) will operate five summer water play areas so that residents can cool off close to home amid the early heat wave. The facilities will be open from July 8 to Aug. 30.

The water play areas opening this time are divided into three children's playground-type sites and two natural stream-type sites. The playground-type areas are located at Munhwa Park, Busuji Park and Saessak Park, while the stream-type areas are at Cheongnyangsan and Bongjaesan, offering a variety of water activities depending on the type.
The water play areas are free for all Yeonsu-gu residents and operate from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are closed every Monday and Tuesday, as well as on rainy days. For safety, children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by a guardian.

In particular, the Bongjaesan water play area has expanded its lighting to operate at night until 10 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday. The measure is intended to allow residents who visit at night to avoid the daytime heat to enjoy a cool rest on hot summer evenings.
The district also placed emphasis on safety management. Yeonsu-gu plans to entrust operation and management to a specialized company, keeping at least three staff on site at all times — including one on-site representative (chief manager) and safety personnel at each water play area — to focus on preventing safety accidents.
Sanitation management will also be strengthened. The water used for the play areas will be replaced and disinfected daily, and under the Water Environment Conservation Act, precise water-quality inspections will be conducted regularly at least once every 15 days to maintain clean water.

For the safety and convenience of visitors, Yeonsu-gu recommended wearing anti-slip "aqua shoes." It also asked visitors to use public transportation to reduce congestion, although parking lots are available at each water play area. For more information, contact the Parks and Green Spaces Division (☎032-749-8692).
A Yeonsu-gu official said, "With the early heat wave already continuing, we will do our best to operate safe facilities so that residents can spend a summer making unforgettable memories with friends and family at the water play areas."
