A helping hand that began with a neighbor's tip changed the daily life of a household in crisis. On the 2nd, the Dohwa 2·3-dong Administrative Welfare Center (Chief Lee Woo-jong) in Michuhol-gu District, together with the Dohwa 2·3-dong Head-of-Neighborhood Autonomous Council (President Kim Young-soon), carried out a "living-environment improvement" volunteer effort for a household vulnerable in terms of sanitation.

The household that received the help was one in which a mother suffering from health difficulties lived together with her disabled child. Household waste had accumulated over a long period, generating foul odors and insects and raising concerns for the residents' health and safety.

The household's circumstances came to light through a report from the welfare neighborhood head. The dong administrative welfare center and the Head-of-Neighborhood Autonomous Council were able to launch the effort after steadily communicating with the household and building trust.

On the day, participants cleared away household waste piled up inside and outside the home and tidied both the interior and exterior, joining forces so that the household could live in a more comfortable and safe environment.

Kim Young-soon, president of the Head-of-Neighborhood Autonomous Council, said, "I thank the neighborhood heads who actively took part in the volunteer work," adding, "I hope the elderly mother and her child will live healthily and happily in their tidied home."

A dong official said, "Thanks to the human safety net, including the Head-of-Neighborhood Autonomous Council, we were able to identify and help a household in crisis," adding, "We will continue to work to eliminate welfare blind spots and provide tailored welfare services."
