The Incheon Yeongjong-gu Volunteer Center has carried out an activity themed on eco-friendly practices in daily life together with the Yeongjong Family Volunteer Corps, a family-based volunteer organization. As the climate crisis has come to feel like a real-life issue for local residents, the effort is significant in that it seeks to shift environmental protection from grand slogans into routine household practices.

The center announced on the 6th that it had recently held, as an activity of the Yeongjong Family Volunteer Corps, environmental education to raise awareness of the importance of carbon-neutrality practices and environmental protection, along with a hands-on session on making eco-friendly solid soap using EM (Effective Microorganisms). Following the education on the need to tackle the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality, participants made EM eco-friendly solid soap for themselves and learned ways to continue eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.
In the process, participants learned that small acts to protect the environment can bring about sustainable change in everyday life. They also watched a video on making EM mud balls together, gaining time to understand the principles behind water-quality improvement and environmental cleanup activities as well as their importance.

The activity did not stop at a simple hands-on experience. Participants shared their views on what kinds of environmental protection activities can be practiced in the Yeongjong area, revisiting how small everyday actions lead to solutions for the community's environmental problems. In particular, the experience-based volunteer activity in which families took part together served as an occasion to empathize with the value of the environment and to strengthen their resolve to lead eco-friendly lives.
Park Jeong-su, a student who took part in the activity, said, "Through the environmental education, I could easily understand why carbon neutrality is important, and I also newly learned that EM mud balls help improve the water quality of streams," adding, "Making the eco-friendly solid soap myself, I realized there are many ways to act for the environment even in daily life. I want to keep practicing small acts for the environment together with my family going forward."

Jeong Mi-yeong, an assistant manager at the center, said, "In an era of climate crisis, protecting the environment is not a choice but a task everyone must work on together," and expressed hope that "this activity has served as an occasion for families to practice carbon neutrality and environmental protection in their daily lives. We will continue to spread a culture of carbon-neutrality practice together with the community through various environmental programs."
The Yeongjong Family Volunteer Corps runs volunteer activities and hands-on programs on a variety of themes each month, including not only the environment but also sharing and history. The center plans to keep taking root a "volunteer culture in which families learn and practice together" and to continue activities that promote mutual prosperity with the community.
