Incheon's Jemulpo-gu District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) has secured KBS 1TV's nationally popular program "National Singing Contest." The district said on the 6th that the arrangement provides an opportunity to announce Jemulpo-gu's launch to the entire nation. It has made the program — long beloved as a resident-participation stage that tours the country — the setting to herald its fresh start.

Applications and registration for the preliminary round, which selects the participants who will take the stage, will run for 15 days from July 15 to 29. Eligible applicants include Jemulpo-gu residents as well as workers and students based in the district, with 300 teams recruited on a first-come, first-served basis.
The local preliminary round will be held at the Jemulpo-gu Culture and Sports Center starting at 1 p.m. on Aug. 1. Applicants will go through a first-stage unaccompanied audition and a second-stage audition with karaoke-machine accompaniment to narrow the field to around 15 who will advance to the final round.
The stage for the finalists who pass the fierce preliminaries will unfold at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 at Sangsang Platform Wave Hall. Along with performances by resident contestants, the taping that day will feature a full lineup of top domestic guest singers — including Park Seo-jin, the "God of Janggu," as well as Moon Yeon-ju, Kim Da-na, Bin Ye-seo and Park Hyun-ho — to liven up the mood.
Jemulpo-gu Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, "Hosting this KBS National Singing Contest will announce Jemulpo-gu's vigorous launch to the entire nation and serve as a meaningful occasion for all residents to come together." He added, "We plan to prepare the event so that residents with talent and passion can fully showcase their abilities, and we ask for the keen interest and participation of our residents."
