The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said it held the Jeonbuk-Saemangeum Land and Transport R&D Briefing at Jeonbuk National University from 2:30 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 4. The event drew around 100 participants, including Minister Kim Yun-deok, the Administrator of the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency, the President of the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, the President of Jeonbuk National University, the Chair of the Jeonbuk Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council, and local companies and researchers from the Jeonbuk region.
The briefing was organized as a follow-up to the Jeonbuk-Saemangeum business roundtable held on July 22, where local firms had asked how companies in Saemangeum and the wider Jeonbuk region could take part in national research and development (R&D) projects and demonstration programs. The session was designed to provide concrete information and procedures so that companies and researchers with strong technical capabilities in the region could actually gain entry into national-level R&D projects.
At the briefing, the Saemangeum Development and Investment Agency first presented the current status of investment in Saemangeum and directions for mutual cooperation. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport then introduced its 2026 investment directions for land and transport R&D, while the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement gave a detailed explanation of the participation procedures and corporate support programs, outlining how local companies and research teams can actually take part in and receive support for R&D projects.
National R&D projects offer large budgets and demonstration opportunities, but there have been persistent concerns that, for local companies, the barrier to entry is high because it is difficult to access participation procedures and support information. This briefing carries significance in helping to narrow such information gaps so that local firms can make practical use of growth opportunities.
Minister Kim Yun-deok said, ‘This briefing was created to keep our promise regarding the proposals raised by local companies,’ adding, ‘The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will serve as a dependable point of contact so that the strengths held by outstanding local firms and researchers are not held back at the threshold of information.’
