The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) will open a total of 642 public parking lots and affiliated parking facilities at public institutions free of charge during the Chuseok holiday. The measure is intended to ease parking for holiday travelers and residents, relieve downtown congestion, and help create a safe and comfortable holiday atmosphere.

The city of Incheon announced that it will open a total of 642 sites, including public parking lots and parking facilities affiliated with public institutions, free of charge during the holiday marking Chuseok, Korea’s biggest traditional festival.
The free opening runs for four days, from Sept. 24, the first day of the holiday, through Sept. 27. In particular, 24 public parking lots directly operated by the city will run on an extended six-day schedule, from Sept. 23 to 28, adding a day on either side of the holiday. Further details are provided on the website of the Incheon Facilities Corporation.
However, specific opening dates and hours may vary depending on the on-site conditions and operating circumstances of each institution. Residents planning to use a parking lot are advised to check the opening information for the relevant facility in advance of their visit.
The locations and detailed schedules of the free-opening parking lots can be viewed at a glance on ‘Gongyu-Nuri (www.eshare.go.kr)’, a public-service reservation and information platform, and on the Public Data Portal (www.data.go.kr). The information is also available in real time through major private map and navigation services, including Naver Map, KakaoMap, TMAP, iNavi Air, and Hyundai Motor navigation.
During holiday periods, parking demand around downtown areas and major facilities surges as vehicles carrying people to their hometowns converge. This free opening is significant in that it eases the burden of paid parking while also reducing illegal roadside parking and traffic congestion, allowing both holiday travelers and local residents to move about with greater convenience.
Park Seong-sun, director-general of the city’s Transportation Policy Bureau, said, ‘For the Chuseok holiday, we will focus the city’s administrative capacity on minimizing traffic congestion and parking inconvenience, so that homebound travelers and residents can enjoy a safe and pleasant holiday without parking stress.’
