The programs were designed to strengthen parents’ capacity for future-oriented education in step with the rapidly changing era of artificial intelligence (AI), while also supporting children’s creative growth and the development of their core competencies.

To this end, the district will hold a special lecture for parents in October, followed by a hands-on program in which parents and children take part together.

First, a special lecture by a distinguished speaker will be held for parents at 10 a.m. on October 8 at the Guro Creative Convergence Education Center (416 Gyeongin-ro). The lecture will be given by Professor Shin Jong-ho of the Department of Education at Seoul National University on the theme ‘Four Core Competencies for Raising an Irreplaceable Child in the AI Era.’ It will address the core competencies needed to move beyond vague anxieties about technology, awaken children’s potential, and help them grow into self-directed individuals who use artificial intelligence as a tool. The district is recruiting 50 parents from the district who wish to participate.

Next, a ‘Family-Participation Generative AI Creative Convergence Program’ will be held at the same venue at 1 p.m. on October 31. Parents and children in the third grade of elementary school or above will participate in teams of two, with a total of 20 families to be recruited. The program will have parents and children work together to develop ideas and build their own AI projects using generative AI and vibe coding, both of which have drawn considerable attention recently. Through collaboration, participants will share and experience one another’s creations, cultivating creative thinking and problem-solving skills at the same time.

Applications for both programs are currently being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis through the Guro Creative Convergence Education Center website. For further details, search for ‘Guro Creative Convergence Education Center’ on KakaoTalk Channel or contact the Education Support Division of the Guro-gu Office (02-860-3026).

Guro-gu Mayor Jang In-hong said, “Amid the rapid transition to the AI era, it is more important than ever for parents to properly understand future education and to build the capacity for it.” He added, “We will continue to work to create an environment for future education so that our children can grow into key talents who lead the society of the future.”

Meanwhile, the district will continue its series of special lectures by distinguished speakers for future talent development through the end of the year. On November 4, it plans to hold a ‘Career and College Admissions Design’ lecture addressing the role of parents in light of changes to the college admissions system, and on December 2, a lecture on ‘Adolescent Children and the Role of Parents and Methods of Communication.’
