Incheon's Jemulpo-gu District (Mayor Kim Chan-jin) is launching a large-scale English and reading experience event for local children and parents to mark the second anniversary of the Ggumdream Children's English Library. The district announced on the 6th that it will run the 'Sparkling English Festa' for four weeks from July 11 to Aug. 9. The event brings together in one place the program capabilities the library has built up over the two years since it opened.

The event focuses on giving children an experience of encountering English like play and nurturing their curiosity, while offering parents an opportunity for learning and shared understanding to rethink the direction of their children's education. A distinctive feature is that it is designed as a cultural program for the whole family to take part in together, going beyond simple language study.
The program consists of four hands-on activities held on designated dates and three side events open to anyone throughout the event period. It is made up of content that stimulates children's imagination and creativity, such as a program that pairs reading an English picture book with a follow-up crafting activity, and an experience in which children make their own one-of-a-kind picture book using the cover of an English picture book.
The library's flagship program, the 'Ggumyeongdo English Camp,' will be run twice as special editions to mark the second anniversary. On July 18, a family-style English camp for preschool children and their parents will be held, providing time to communicate through English and build memories. Then on Aug. 8, an 'outreach Ggumyeongdo English Camp' will be held at the Donggurang Steelland kids' cafe, where elementary school students will freely use the kids' cafe facilities after completing English experience activities, enjoying play and learning together.
A program for parents has also been prepared. Lee Seol-hee, team leader at the Ggumdream Children's English Library, will conduct a 'DIY Mom English Special Lecture' for parents of preschool children. Under the theme 'The secret of the English golden time you must know before starting elementary school (ages 3 to 6, when English soaks in like a mother tongue),' she will introduce practical educational know-how, including ways parents can create an English environment at home and how to make use of English picture books.
During the event period, three side events, including the 'Challenge! STOP! 7.3-Second Challenge,' will also be run at all times, allowing library visitors to experience something different even outside the set program times.
Detailed information, including the specific program schedule and how to register, can be found on the Ggumdream Children's English Library website (https://lib.jemulpo.go.kr/dream/), and other inquiries can be directed to the library.
Jemulpo-gu Mayor Kim Chan-jin said, "The Ggumdream Children's English Library has been able to reach its second anniversary thanks to the interest and support of local residents who have cherished and stood by the library," adding, "We will continue to prepare a variety of English and reading culture programs where the whole family can grow together and build sparkling memories, and do our utmost to foster a city specialized in children's English education."
