The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced that it will accept entries for the ‘Incheon Marathon 2026’, to be held on November 22, beginning at 2 p.m. on September 7 through the official website. Registration will proceed on a first-come, first-served basis until each category reaches its quota.

Now in its second year, the Incheon Marathon is Incheon’s only internationally certified full-course marathon, co-hosted by the Incheon Metropolitan Government and the Korea Association of Athletics Federations and co-organized by the Incheon Sports Council and the Incheon Athletics Federation. It has established itself as a flagship sports festival where marathoners from home and abroad experience the cityscape of Incheon and the scenery of the West Sea firsthand while connecting with one another.

The course has been designed with a focus on enhancing participants’ satisfaction and convenience. The full course (42.195 km) starts on Yeongjong-daero near Unseo Station in Yeongjong-gu, crosses the Cheongna Haneul Bridge, and finishes at the Asiad Main Stadium in Seohae-gu. The 10 km and 5 km events run along courses in the vicinity of the Asiad Main Stadium. Entry fees are 80,000 won for the full course, 50,000 won for the 10 km, and 30,000 won for the 5 km.

In particular, buoyed by the successful staging of last year’s inaugural race, this year the full-course field has been expanded from 6,000 to 8,000 out of a total of 20,000 participants. The 10 km course will accept 10,000 runners and the 5 km course 2,000, each on a first-come, first-served basis. A notable feature is that the shorter events, which have a relatively low barrier to entry, are run alongside the main race so that a broad range of people—from serious enthusiasts to families—can take part.

The city plans to make the event an opportunity for domestic and international visitors to run past major landmarks and experience Incheon’s dynamic scenery, while concentrating its administrative resources on channeling the resulting influx of tourists into a boost for the local economy. In that the event functions not merely as a sports occasion but as a city-marketing tool encompassing regional promotion and commercial revitalization, tangible ripple effects are also anticipated for residents.

Kim Seong-hyeon, director of the city’s Sports Promotion Division, said, ‘This event was designed so that marathoners visiting Incheon can run across the Cheongna Haneul Bridge, an Incheon landmark, and experience the city’s landscape and the scenery of the West Sea for themselves,’ adding, ‘We will place participants’ safety above all else and do our utmost to present an even more polished event.’

Meanwhile, details on entry for the ‘Incheon Marathon 2026’, including the schedule and course information, can be found on the official website (https://incheonmarathon.or.kr).
