Incheon has received the grand prize for the second consecutive year in the metropolitan and provincial comprehensive evaluation of the senior employment program organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare (Bogeon Bokjibu). The result reflects nationwide recognition of the city’s expansion of tailored jobs designed to match local conditions and the needs of older residents.

The Incheon Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Chan-dae) announced on the 21st that it received the grand prize in the metropolitan and provincial comprehensive evaluation at the commemorative event for ‘2026 Senior Employment Week’, held at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
The evaluation was a comprehensive review by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of the senior job creation performance and contribution to program vitalization across all 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide, and Incheon earned the top grade for the second year running, following last year. At a time when the population is aging rapidly, jobs for older adults go beyond income support to serve as a foundation for social participation and a healthy later life, making this achievement one that directly affects the lives of the region’s senior citizens.
Last year, the city worked with its districts and counties as well as 47 implementing agencies to create a total of 58,221 senior jobs. By pursuing tailored projects that reflected local characteristics and the needs of older residents, it achieved 105.1 percent of its original target.
The creation of quality jobs through public-private cooperation was especially notable. By additionally opening GS25 Senior Dream Store branches No. 9 through 11, the city secured 42 new jobs, and through a public cooperation model with the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, it established 514 jobs across various fields such as ‘Senior Health Helpers’ and the ‘Neulbom School’ program. In addition, the city has held regular promotion and sales exhibitions twice a year for products made by participating seniors, working to expand sales channels and improve public awareness.
The city explained that these results were the product of organic cooperation among Incheon, its districts and counties, and implementing agencies in identifying jobs needed in the region and steadily broadening the scope of cooperation with private and public institutions. Analysts noted that expanding the scope of participation into private distribution networks and educational settings, rather than merely enlarging public work programs, served as a strength in the evaluation.
In connection with the day’s commemorative event, the Incheon Senior Human Resources Development Center displayed and promoted products made by participants at an outdoor venue in Seoul Plaza, showcasing the year’s outstanding achievements to the nation.
Kim Jong-ho, director general of the city’s Integrated Care Bureau, who attended the ceremony, said, ‘This grand prize is the fruit of organic cooperation among the city, its districts and counties, and implementing agencies,’ adding, ‘I am deeply grateful to the seniors who participate so actively in the field and to all those involved.’ He continued, ‘Incheon will continue to do its utmost to actively identify quality, locally tailored jobs so that our seniors can enjoy a healthy and happy later life.’
Meanwhile, in the basic local government category of this ceremony, Namdong-gu and Seohae-gu received the grand prize, while in the implementing agency category, the Michuhol-gu Senior Human Resources Development Center and the Namdong-gu Senior Human Resources Development Center each received the grand prize.
